Join Us on November 6 at the Annual FDRIO Conference

Tuesday, November 4 is the last day to register for the Family Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario’s 11th Annual Conference: The FDR Toolbox – Equipping Professionals for a Changing World taking place at the The Ismaili Centre in Toronto.

As you may be aware, Hull & Hull LLP is again a proud silver sponsor of the conference. We are excited to continue to support this annual conference as it continues to deliver valuable practice tools for all professionals in the field of family dispute resolution.  The firm’s relationship with FDRIO goes back eleven years, with Ian M. Hull having been one of FDRIO’s Founders. Ian Hull and Nick Esterbauer continue to co-chair FDRIO’s Family Estates & Elder ADR section and, through FDRIO, promote the use of ADR to resolve family disputes surrounding death and incapacity, considering the role of estate litigators as FDR professionals.

This year, we are looking forward to the presentation by Charles Ticker on Competing Concepts of Fairness: Avoiding and Managing Sibling Conflicts in Estate Matters. This presentation will discuss the root causes of sibling estate disputes as well as competing concepts of fairness, while also addressing the increased risk of disputes among blended families and offering practical tools on how to avoid and manage sibling estate disputes with a focus on mediation and the uniqueness of estate mediation.

We are also honoured to be joined next week by Justice Cary Boswell as our keynote speaker. Justice Boswell is co-chair of the Civil Rules Review, which is nearing the conclusion of its two-year mandate to re-imagine the Rules of Civil Procedure from the ground up. The project will see sweeping changes introduced to the way in which civil litigation is conducted in the Province of Ontario. The extensive package of reforms arguably represents the single most significant development in the history of Ontario’s civil justice system. This is your opportunity to hear from one of the architects of the reforms about what was at stake, what can be expected, and how the changes will impact on the court, the litigants, and those in the business of alternative dispute resolution.

Finally, this year’s conference has been approved by the LSO for 2 hours of Professionalism Content.
