Prince’s Possible Heirs: An Update
Since the untimely death of Prince, who died without a Will or any known children, it has now been determined that at this time only six of almost 30 possible heirs may benefit from his vast estate.
This past Friday, a Minnesota Judge ordered genetic testing to be conducted on six people, including Prince’s sister, three of his half-siblings as well as a possible niece and grand-niece. While it remains to be seen who will ultimately inherit Prince’s Estate, this recent court order considerably reduces the possible heirs by excluding a number of individuals who claimed be fathered by Prince or some other kin to him.
In Ontario, an Estate Trustee has a duty to locate all heirs of a deceased. This may including seeking an Order from the Court pursuant to the provision in the Children’s Law Reform Act, recently discussed in my blog entitled The Long Lost Child.
