Called to the Ontario Bar in 1957 (LLB); appointed Queens Counsel, in 1969.
Awarded The Law Society Medal by The Law Society of Upper Canada in 2007.
Author of the standard reference works, Canadian Forms of Wills (4th ed., in collaboration with Terence Sheard and Michael Fitzpatrick) and McDonnell, Sheard and Hull Probate Practice 4th Edition (in collaboration with Ian Hull), and of extensive contributions to academic and professional journals and publications in Canada relating to estates, trusts and fiduciary matters. Formerly Chairman of the Canadian Bar Association Wills and Trusts section, he is also a Fellow of the American College of Probate Counsel (former State Chairman, Central Canada); Academician of the International Academy of Estates and Trust Law; lecturer in the Bar Admission Course and at programs conducted by the Law Society of Upper Canada, Canadian Bar Association, Canadian Tax Foundation and other professional organizations. He is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil litigation. Awarded the Award of Excellence by the Ontario Bar Association, Wills and Trusts Section 2005.
